Whats your flavour?
RSS, Atom, Web feeds, Live bookmarks, whatever you call them, they've had a complicated path to get where they are today. And the name RSS looks like it's the daddy in terms of the name thats been adopted for this family of standards. RSS is a fantastic way to save you having to visit favourite web sites, but still get updates. Think of it as a newspaper you've designed, with all the sections, cartoons, sport, articles & reviews that you like, delievered to your door, every day.
Sure there a lot more to it, but like most things, you'll have more fun and learn more about it, if you just try it out. You'll need a piece of software called a 'feed reader'. Better still, use an online feed reader, particularly if you use more than one machine. Readers such as Google Reader, or Bloglines are the most popular.
Hunt for your food
Now simply visit the sites you like, and look for their [normally Orange] icon, like the one to the right hand side of this page. Clicking it will normally open the feed. Now you can either copy & paste in to your feed reader or most modern browsers may give you the choice to add to common feed readers for you.
To be or not to be...Orange
Fairly recently the majority of web users started adopting a standardised RSS icon designed initially by the people behind FireFox to help promote their, in browser, version of RSS feeds, they called 'Live Bookmarks'.
This predominantly orange icon is now widely adopted as the standard, but many still choose to colour it, or tweak the design. Some make the size of the icon incredibly big [and frankly make it look a bit silly in a vain attempt to get more people reading their feed], but ultimately they all do the same thing.
All you can eat
I have lots of feeds available, from photo's and news from this site, to music and news articles and other sites I liked that you may find interesting. All the individual feeds are on the right hand side of this page as well as one master 'All you can eat' feed. Also located directly below. It combines all feeds in to one simple link. Make sure to leave room for desert.
